Flood Warning.... ew.

For those of you who don't know, Grand Forks flooded in 1997... the whole city flooded and started on fire and if you don't know what I'm talking about, then google it... it was really really bad.

Anyway, this morning on the news they are comparing THIS season to the 1997 spring thaw season... and they said that the Red River has not risen so fast and so much since the flood of 1997. They are expecting the river to crest on Friday.

Now, I know that it won't flood like it did in 1997, not even close I'm sure. The river prolly won't even leak over its banks. The problem is that the underground water table is so high (the ground it really saturated) so the water that is melting can't seep into the ground, so it stays above ground and spreads, and that is what is causing people's houses to flood (especially rural areas where the feilds are now big lakes) We've gotten two families at the hotel tonight because they've lost their house already. Kevin and I live in Grand Forks, ND but Karissa and Doug on the other hand... they live in East Grand Forks, MN and they live like a couple city blocks from the river. East Grand Forks closed 2 of the 3 bridges that link the two cities together, one being the bridge that they live closest to. East Grand Forks started putting up their dyke sysem... or whatever they call that wall... the flood wall or whatever. I've never seen so many people worried about the river and we've lived here on and off for 7 years.

Karissa says she's a little nervous, but not too concerned. They picked everything up off the basement floor. They have an escape route planned if they need it.

This is my second successful day of being smoke free, thank you very much. I'm a winner, so far. And no, I haven't even been cranky. No matter what Kevin says. :)

I'm glad you like my new title graphic. I love it, and it took me forever to figure out how to get it there, but it was worth the time.

Congrats on smoke-free! Just think of the $$ you'll save, and all the healthy stuff you've already mentioned.

Good pics of the GF bridge....it's hard to imagine it's that high when you don't live there.
