Cake and Queen: More fun than a barrel of monkies

Is it monkies? or monkeys? Anyway... tonight I made Carrot cake... and not from the box... from scratch. (baby food carrots, not real ones) and it turned out just fine. It was a production as Blake (who was my right hand man with recipe in hand) and Lindsay (blakes.... girly type friend.. but not.. but really -kind of) and Amber and Ben and Kevin all stood and watched in amazment as I whipped that cake together like I was Freak'n Emeril. BAM! Watchout Food Network! I made the cake for a co worker 's birthday tomorrow. Which I'm not too excited about- being that I'm pretty sure this guy thinks I'm the stupidest, laziest person alive. Sometimes people's personalities just clash... what are ya gonna do, can't win um all over right.
But I have to wait until tomorrow to see if the cake is actually edible, cross your fingers people.

We watched American Idol... Queen themed, and it was awesome. I was surprised that Kelly Pickler did so well. She was actually one of my favorite performers tonight. Taylor made me laugh, and I love him and hope he stays. Ace can just go away, he is too... I don't know, I just don't like him or his voice or his tight leather pants.

Before all that though, Blake, Amber, Ben, The Husband and I went to Grizzleys (GRRRRRRR, Tame the Growlies: most catchy slogan ever) and we had a blast. We spent most of the time just laughing really hard, and not those giggles, but the full out belly laughs, and we didn't stop until everyone left our house... I think I burned all the calories I took in from dinner just laughing. Fun times, I'll definately remember tonight, It was great.

I talked to Em last night, haven't talked to her forever. We've planned a weekend trip to visit her and the fam. We also hope to plan more times together this summer.

Today I'm officially 10 days smoke free. I must say, it was easier than I thought it was going to be. Should have done it a long time ago. I feel great. I couldn't have done it without drugs... thank god for over-prescribed drugs... I never thought I"d be okay with taking a drug that controls your moods, or thoughts, or anything like that. When they tell you that one of the side effects is "suicidal thoughts" a person has to wonder exactly how much this drug controls you if it can make you want to kill yourself. But I think its great, I would be willing to be on an info-mercial for free, I believe in this crap so much. That is my plug... "Take Welbutrin, its good stuff"

Me and The Parents. This picture brought on the reality that I am very pale and that it is quite possible I have big ears... thank you Grandpa H.  Posted by Picasa

Anyone got a light?!!!!!

Just kidding! 5 days... I honestly didn't think I'd make it this far. Yay for me! Kevin says he "doesn't know if he can believe me" because I lied to him last time, so that would be my fault. I cried wolf one too many times, now I have to convince him I'm telling the truth. He smelled me, my hair, my clothes, I told him to check out my car and thats when he decided that if I'm letting him search my car, I must be telling the truth.

I'm very excited for Easter... I have an excuse to make easter baskets. Adele... yeah even though her parents hate me at the moment, she is still our Goddaughter, so she is getting an easter basket. Cassie is also getting one, and I'm mailing that one off next week. Isabella is getting one too. I need a kid. My friends kids just aren't cutting it any more.

We have two groups (Hockey groups from Canada) staying at the hotel for the next three glorious days. ALL of them decided to check in at the same time today... I told them the earliest checkin time is around three, and not all the rooms may be ready by then (you know because housekeepers don't just wiggle their noses to get a room clean and perfect) what time do you suppose they came to checkin? THREE O'CLOCK on the dot... all of them. Luckily we have rockstar housekeepers and the rooms were all clean. Then they all insisted on cots, fridges, microwaves, pillows, blankets... of course their need for these items were VASTLY more important that the needs of the other guests. They were sooo demanding, and they don't understand the "First come first serve to those who have already requested it" rule. And by the 20th person I felt like saying "WE ONLY HAVE 6 ROLLAWAYS, you've been standing in line for 20 minutes listening to a billion people BEFORE YOU request a rollaway or fridge" Do you really think we have 20 extra rollaways for our 65 room hotel!!!" Then they get all pissy when they drag their luggage to a luggage cart, only to discover that we don't have an elevator (again 65 room, 2 story hotel....) and they get mad and ask for main floor. Mind you they are healthy, athletic families here for a hockey game... I think you can manage carrying your 5 bags up 16 steps (yes, I have counted them).

What do these people do when they are at home? Do they set up a pully system to get from floor to floor in their house... do they do laundry in the basement??

People automatically become disabled when they leave their homes. Not only that but they become light sleepers (nothing by stairs, vending, pool, meeting rooms, elevators, dogs, families with babies, doors, lobbies... tell me what room isn't near ONE of these items?)

They also become allergic to chlorine, smoke, cleaning solutions, dogs, cats, and they can't be in a room that is near these things, or a room that possibly at one time in 10 years had any of these things in it.

Some people require you to slowly explain that we don't control the temp. in a room, the HVAC unit in the window controls the heat AND a/c and if you took a second to look at the thing sticking out of the wall before you got your panties up in a bunch and called the front desk and yelled at me, you would have seen its as easy as turning the machine "on"

okay... wow, yup, I worked a 10 hour day, and it shows. When I get goin'.....

Have a good FRIDAY tomorrow!!!!

ARG!

WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED IT!! Mandisa was kicked off American Idol tonight! HOW DARE THEY! I would have never guessed she was even in the bottom 3. I thought for sure it would have been Paris or Elliot, shows how much I know. I've come up with a conspiracy theory, it goes like this: America sucks at voting in general. They don't know how to vote. We can't elect a decent president, and get confused when filling out a simple electronic voting system, how do they expect us to be intelligent enough to vote for the best singer in America over the phone? Kevin and I think that the producers are secretly prepping Chris to become American Idol. They always give him the best camera angles, he almost always performs in the last three which means people will remember how much they loved his performance more, he gets the cool lighting with the strobes and colors and he almost always has had his own showcase, which means he is the only performer between comercial breaks, kind of like singling him out.

Anyway. I didn't work today. It was a nice day off. Hung out with Karissa and Isabella, went to Walmart for Easter basket shopping for the Godkids, and got my car cleaned out. I'm making it an official non smoking vehicle. After supper, we met Blake, Karissa, Doug and Bell Bell and took a nice walk to the river. This is the first day they have enforced the whole "no walking on the dyke" law. Police were kicking people off the bridge and dykes because I guess everyone heads over there and it gets to be quite the crowd. Having only one bridge open really really sucks. Traffic is nasty, hopefully the river will crest tonight and the water will go down, the cleaning crews will come out and the other two bridges will be open again soon.

4 days of being smoke free. no cheating. I'm excited. I got sunflower seeds to keep my mouth occupied.

2am and I'm posting about American Idol... sad, I know.

It only makes sense that since I woke up at 5:30 this morning that I am wide awake right now and it is 2:15am. No, that makes no sense, but here I am.

We watched American Idol tonight, and it was Country night. First of all, I hate country. Second, I can't stand Kelly Pickler, and I knew they would make this huge deal about her being from Texas. In my opinion (because I'm now an expert) all the songs sucked. I didn't even like Chris the Rocker's song choice. They all sounded really bored and out of tune to me. My prediction for the bottom 3 tomorrow: Ace, Paris, and Taylor (maybe even Bucky). I hope Ace gets voted off... even though he is incredibly HOT, he bothers me with his tendency to grope himself, and that stupid stare down he has with the camera while he sings in Falcetto which simply sounds like he got kicked in balls. Who did I vote for: Taylor. I want him to stick around, not to win, but to make it fun, and I don't think America really wants him to be there anymore. Goin' for the underdog.

Day three and I'm still Smoke Free! Last time I quit smoking... I didn't really quit, I just cut down and lied to Kevin about it... but this time I really have NOT cheated... not once. I'm doin' good. There's times that I sit and think about it for like 15 minutes "there's a gas station right down the street... its that easy" but I haven't and they say that it only takes like 5 days to form a habit, or quit and old one.

Now I just have to work on the biting my nails thing, and I'll be set!

Doug chasing Bell Bell down the walk way. It kind of looks like Doug is gliding. Isabella ran most of the time... away from Doug.  Posted by Picasa

Isabella got mad at us because we wouldn't let her roll down the dyke into the river, silly girl. Posted by Picasa

Flood Warning.... ew.

For those of you who don't know, Grand Forks flooded in 1997... the whole city flooded and started on fire and if you don't know what I'm talking about, then google it... it was really really bad.

Anyway, this morning on the news they are comparing THIS season to the 1997 spring thaw season... and they said that the Red River has not risen so fast and so much since the flood of 1997. They are expecting the river to crest on Friday.
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ahps2/warning.php?wfo=fgf&loc=MNC119&pil=FGFFLSFGF&date=20060403161400
Now, I know that it won't flood like it did in 1997, not even close I'm sure. The river prolly won't even leak over its banks. The problem is that the underground water table is so high (the ground it really saturated) so the water that is melting can't seep into the ground, so it stays above ground and spreads, and that is what is causing people's houses to flood (especially rural areas where the feilds are now big lakes) We've gotten two families at the hotel tonight because they've lost their house already. Kevin and I live in Grand Forks, ND but Karissa and Doug on the other hand... they live in East Grand Forks, MN and they live like a couple city blocks from the river. East Grand Forks closed 2 of the 3 bridges that link the two cities together, one being the bridge that they live closest to. East Grand Forks started putting up their dyke sysem... or whatever they call that wall... the flood wall or whatever. I've never seen so many people worried about the river and we've lived here on and off for 7 years.

Karissa says she's a little nervous, but not too concerned. They picked everything up off the basement floor. They have an escape route planned if they need it.

This is my second successful day of being smoke free, thank you very much. I'm a winner, so far. And no, I haven't even been cranky. No matter what Kevin says. :)

I'm glad you like my new title graphic. I love it, and it took me forever to figure out how to get it there, but it was worth the time.

Are you sure I'm 25?

Cause I don't feel 25. Mom, are you sure you got that year right?

I had a great birthday. It started out odd, because of the whole getting home at 5am and sleeping on and off until noon. But after that it was a great birthday. Kevin gave me some $$$ to do whatever I want with... I'm getting new glasses and some clothes. He also got me a corner shelf to replace the ghetto ones I got for free 5 years ago. We met Blake, Amber, Ben and Steffy at Applebees, where an aquaintance of ours is the general manager, he insisted they sing the obnoxious birthday song to me, but like I was going to let him do that. luckily, he didn't. I dont think I would have felt comfortable with all those people staring at me while my face was 10 shades of red. Then we went home and Amber made me a delicious cake. Then we met Lindsay at the movie theater and saw Ice Age 2. Great movie, very funny as usual. I liked the first one better, but this one definately had its moments. Then we all went over to Amber and Bens to check out the new puppy "tilly" Now we got home, and Tomorrow is I'll be officially a non smoker. yay for me.

So that was my birthday. Nothing too exciting. I didn't feel like having a big party. The new and improved healthier me didn't want to start out my new healthy life with a hangover.

Tomorrow will be another gym day. My parents are coming to town too. It'll be nice seeing them again.

Good Night, see ya on the flip side.
